We built an advanced OCR and document intelligence system capable of reading both printed and handwritten medical records. The solution included AI-powered data extraction, a secure dashboard for medical staff, an admin portal, encrypted storage, and full compliance controls.

Technical Details

Frontend Interface: Developed a secure, responsive dashboard using React, optimized for clinical workflows to allow medical staff to easily verify and manage extracted patient data. Backend Architecture: Implemented a high-performance REST API using Python FastAPI, ensuring rapid processing of document uploads and asynchronous data handling. Optical Character Recognition (OCR): Integrated AWS Textract to accurately digitize standardized medical forms, utilizing its specialized capabilities to recognize and extract both printed text and complex handwriting. Secure AI & NLP Layer: Leveraged AWS Bedrock to deploy private, fully managed Large Language Models (LLMs) for interpreting and structuring extracted data. This ensured all data processing remained within a secure environment without exposure to public APIs. HIPAA Compliance & Security: Data Privacy: Architected the entire solution to meet HIPAA standards, ensuring Protected Health Information (PHI) is encrypted both in transit and at rest. Infrastructure: Deployed within a virtual private cloud (VPC) with strict access controls, utilizing AWS-managed services to maintain audit trails and data sovereignty.
